The vision of Masanga Hospital Rehabilitation Project is to foster growth and development in the health sector of Sierra Leone. Our aim is to give the local community equal access to health services. We are educating the local staff in a variety of areas to sustain the project in the future. To realize this, a key component is to create a stable and sustainable economical foundation, which prospectively can ensure the necessary monetary flow. Therefore, the project is supported by the establishment of different business initiatives to promote the long term vision.
Our focus is divided in three fields, to ensure the future sustainability of a well-functioning hospital.
- Health – To establish a 100% operational hospital with 100 hospital beds
- Education – To further develop Tonkolili District College of Health Sciences and Technology, which aims to ensure high quality education of health professionals
- Entrepreneurship – To develop business initiatives to ensure the financial foundation of the hospital and to generate growth and job opportunities for the local community.
You can read more about the different areas on the allocated tabs.
Our vision is:
To strengthen the Sierra Leonean health sector and facilitate high quality health services.
To develop health services which are sustainable, economically accessible and reaches out to vulnerable groups.
Our mission is:
To establish a reputable and sustainable hospital with 100 hospital beds for the people in Tonkolili District in Sierra Leone. This will be governed and staffed by local employees, financed by the government of Sierra Leone and supported by strong collaborations with medical institutions in Europe.
To develop a financially sustainable Education Center for health educations to overcome the scarcity of health professionals in the country.
To develop local businesses which can generate a surplus to ensure the financial foundation of the hospital and which creates local growth.
Agreement with the Government of Sierra Leone
Masanga Hospital is owned by the Government of Sierra Leone (GOSL). In 2006 Associated Friends of Masanga (today called Masanga DK) and the Sierra Leonean Adventists Abroad (SLAA) entered into a 10-year contract with GOSL to rehabilitate and run Masanga Hospital on behalf of the government and people in Tonkolili District. The foundation of the agreement was a commitment from GOSL and the District Medical Officer to provide resources, health professionals and free medication to lactating mothers, pregnant women and children under the age of 5. These commitments have not been fully adhered to as promised which is challenging the financial stability of the hospital. We are currently working to renegotiate the agreement with GOSL with new commitments, which we expect to be delivered, for the project to become sustainable.
Collaboration with medical institutions in Europe
Strong connections have been established with medical institutions in Europe aiming at sharing knowledge and expertise between Europe and Sierra Leone. We expect these connections to promote and strengthen Masanga Hospital.
